Overview

Before joining Coffey Modica, Rhey served as a senior litigation associate at a well-known Manhattan firm. There, he represented clients in state and federal courts and managed a complex caseload from inception through conclusion.

Rhey’s practice has centered on defending property owners, commercial clients, contractors, and other entities in third-party claims. He has also represented clients in breach of contract cases involving real estate and commercial business disputes.

Rhey believes in leaving no stone unturned when it comes to his cases. This holistic perspective allows him to thoroughly analyze the facts, assess the strength of the claims, and develop a robust defense strategy.

His expertise includes performing case evaluations, assessing risk and liability exposure, identifying risk transfer, and developing litigation strategies. Rhey is skilled in drafting legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and settlement agreements. He has regularly appeared for compliance conferences, oral arguments on motions, depositions, and pre-trial and settlement conferences

Beyond litigation, Rhey has valuable experience in commercial and consumer loss mitigation, municipal bankruptcy filings, trademark and copyright infringements, and general corporate advice. Additionally, he has represented insurance companies and self-insured employers before the New York Workers’ Compensation Board.

During law school, Rhey worked as a student attorney for the nationally-ranked Washington College of Law Clinic, advising nonprofit organizations and limited equity cooperatives on tax exemption matters, landlord-tenant laws, and corporate structure. He also served as a legal fellow for the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee and interned at Hilton Worldwide where he was selected as a corporate scholar recipient.

Prior to entering the legal field, Rhey gained significant business experience in the mortgage and entertainment industries as a chief operating officer and production executive.
