At Swiss RE/North American Specialty Insurance, Karl set up standard operating procedures and guidelines for Management of Third Party Administrators. He was also responsible for claims auditing and due diligence on several large loss portfolio transfers and developed and maintained oversight and reporting guidelines for panel law firms and experts. At the time of his retirement from Swiss RE he was overseeing in excess of 20,000 casualty, construction defect, marine and aviation claims with over 100 staff that he was responsible for managing.

Karl is married to Nancy and they have two children, Andy, a trauma nurse at Dartmouth Hospital, and Henry, a United States Air Force Captain stationed in Germany.
