Nicholas MacInnis is Counsel in the firm’s New York office, where he focuses his practice on complex litigation, with an emphasis on construction accident, labor law, and high-exposure premises liability matters. He represents owners, general contractors, and other corporate defendants at all stages of litigation, from initial pleadings and discovery through motion practice and resolution, and is known for his thorough analysis, clear writing, and strategic advocacy.

Overview
Before joining Coffey Modica, Nicholas developed a broad litigation and appellate background across New York and Massachusetts state and federal courts. He has drafted and argued appeals before multiple departments of the New York State Appellate Division and has extensive experience preparing dispositive motions, conducting depositions, appearing in court, and managing cases from inception through conclusion. His practice has spanned both defense-side construction litigation and complex statutory claims, giving him a well-rounded perspective on high-stakes matters.
Nicholas also brings significant appellate experience from his longstanding service as an Appellate Panel Attorney for the Massachusetts Committee for Public Counsel Services, where he represents defendants seeking post-conviction relief and regularly drafts appellate briefs and presents oral argument.
He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court, where he conducted legal research and assisted in drafting decisions on complex civil and criminal matters.
Nicholas earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School, where he ranked in the top seven percent of his class and served as Lead Articles Editor of the Suffolk University Law Review. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Bates College.
