Steven R. Perkel

Steven is an aggressive litigator with more than a decade of experience in insurance defense litigation. He regularly appears before the Courts of the State of New York on a wide range of New York Labor Law, Construction Defect, Coverage, general negligence claims, and general liability matters. His vast experience, detail-driven and diligent approach throughout all phases of litigation, from inception through resolution, allows him to pinpoint and problem-solve the crucial issues to be addressed in each matter. Steven has handled numerous trials with good results for clients. Steven’s meticulous approach, right from the outset of investigations to addressing significant New York State Labor Law provisions, makes him an invaluable asset to the firm.

Prior to joining Coffey Modica, Steven was a partner at a well-established insurance defense firm, where he worked closely with the firm’s managing partner on legal strategy for the firm’s case responsibilities to carriers.  His ability to manage successful mediations and settlement conferences and establish best practices for delivering deposition responsibilities throughout a multi-office firm translated into superior client service. He has extensive experience in coverage analysis related to risk transfer issues.

As a trial attorney, Steven has served as a Managing Partner focusing on Labor Law / Construction Group, handling high-exposure catastrophic injury cases from inception through trial, as well as assisting younger attorneys in the firm on their caseloads. His adeptness in leading litigation teams and driving them to deliver top-notch results is a testament to his passion for the field.

Steven’s attention to detail from initial investigations, through complex depositions to drafting motion or opposition to significant summary judgment issues based upon New York State Labor Law §§ 200, 240 and 241(6) is an asset to the firm. 

Steven enjoys all sports, especially soccer, football and baseball. He is a diehard Yankees fan and catches those early morning Newcastle United Premier League matches. He also enjoys watching Wes Anderson and Martin Scorsese films and spending time with family. He is a frequent commentator on CNN and HLN and holds an OSHA 10 Card.
